Thursday Movie Picks #17: Halloween Edition - Rituals

Hey! Welcome to Thursday Movie Picks where you get to share your movie picks for each topic presented every Thursday!  Based on the theme presented each week, you can pick up to 3 to 5 movies and explain why you picked those movies! This meme is being hosted by Wandering through the Shelves!

This week's theme is: Halloween Edition: Rituals!

I don't watch too many movies that deals with rituals, but here are a couple of movies that dealt with rituals that I have either seen or want to see!

1. The Babysitter

Once again, I'm featuring this movie on another "Thursday Movie Picks!"  This movie involves the titular babysitter and her group of friends trying to start a ritual where they kill people to get their blood so that they can have their wishes come true.  It's a truly entertaining film!

I remembered watching this movie many years ago.  But it's been awhile since I last watched this movie, so I don't remember too much about this movie.  All I remembered was that it was about a woman named Rosemary who's husband is involved in a satanic cult that involves the birth of her child.

I still haven't seen this movie yet, but I've been hearing lots of good and scary things about this movie and it seems like a really creepy type of ritual film that I really want to see!

Top 10 Weird Horror Movies that I Need to Watch

Hey everyone!  Welcome to the "Top Lists" where I do a top 10 lists on any topics that I come across!

This week's theme is: Top 10 Weird Horror Movies that I Need to See!

It's the Halloween season and that means that it's time to talk about some horror movies that are weird, but I haven't seen them yet (man, I need to start watching more movies soon).  So, here's my top 10 weird horror movies that I need to watch!

1. Little Otik

When a childless couple learn that they cannot have children, it causes great distress.  To ease his wife's pain, the man finds a piece of root in the backyard and chops it and varnishes it into the shape of a child.  However the woman takes the root as her baby and starts to pretend that it is real.  When the root takes life they seem to have gained a child; but its appetite is much greater than a normal child.

I've been dying to watch some of Jan Svankmajer's films and "Little Otik" seems like the most interesting movie out of his collection (besides "Alice").  I am interested in seeing just how scary this particular movie is, especially after seeing some of the scary imagery in "Alice!"

2. Mandy

The enchanted lives of a couple in a secluded forest are brutally shattered by a nightmarish hippie cult and their demon-biker henchmen, propelling a man into a spiraling, surreal rampage of vengeance.

This is probably one of the most recent surreal movies that was released and it was interesting seeing Nicolas Cage star in this movie.  I've been hearing lots of good things about this movie and I also heard about how weird and terrifying this movie is, which is a nice bonus for me!

3. Videodrome

When he acquires a different kind of show for his station, a sleazy cable-TV programmer begins to see his life and the future of media spin out of control in a terrifying new reality.
I never seen any of David Cronenberg's films, but I heard that they were pretty weird films! One of his weirdest films was "Videodrome" and if the premise of the film is television turning reality inside out, then you know that you just hooked me in!  Also, I want to see just how creepy this movie is!

4. Mother!

A couple's relationship is tested when uninvited guests arrive at their home, disrupting their tranquil existence.

I haven't seen any of Darren Aronofsky's films, but I am intrigued by the premise of this film and it definitely sounds like a good and weird horror film that I should check out!

5. Suspiria

An American newcomer to a prestigious German ballet academy comes to realize that the school is a front for something sinister amid a series of grisly murders.

I've been hearing so much about this movie, but I never got the chance to see this movie (seriously, when can I find the time)?  This sounds like a good horror movie to check out!

6. Lunacy

A man takes up residence with a mysterious marquis and is soon persuaded to enter into an asylum for preventative therapy.  Things are not what they seem, and the marquis may be even more sinister than what the young man may've predicated.

Another Jan Svankmajer film that I am interested in and it seems like the weirdest among his works.  I definitely need to check this movie out!

7. Evil Dead 2

The lone survivor of an onslaught of flesh-possessing spirits holes up in a cabin with a group of strangers while the demons continue their attack.

I haven't seen the "Evil Dead" movies yet, but this one sounds like the most interesting of all the series!  I guess I'll give this series a shot!

8. Possession

A woman starts exhibiting increasingly disturbing behavior after asking her husband for a divorce.  Suspicions of infidelity soon give way to something much more sinister.

I've been hearing a lot about this movie and I am pretty interested in seeing how this movie will turn out!

9. Manos: The Hands of Fate

A family gets lost on the road and stumbles upon a hidden, underground, devil-worshiping cult led by the fearsome Master and his servant Torgo.

I just saw the IMDB rating on this film and it's PRETTY low! But, I'm going to check this film out anyway, either to see whether I like this film or not or to see just how BAD this film is!

10. Cemetery Man

A cemetery man must kill the dead a second time when they become zombies.

Oooh! This sounds like an interesting movie!  I honestly never heard of this movie until I checked out various weird movie sites and they had mentioned this movie a couple of times.  Definitely worth checking out!

Well, that's my top 10 weird horror movies that I Need to watch and I'm hoping to watch all of these movies soon!

What weird horror movies haven't you seen yet and what weird horror movies do you think I should watch?  Please let me know in the comments down below!

Thursday Movie Picks #16: Halloween Edition - Jump Scares that Got You

Hey! Welcome to Thursday Movie Picks where you get to share your movie picks for each topic presented every Thursday!  Based on the theme presented each week, you can pick up to 3 to 5 movies and explain why you picked those movies! This meme is being hosted by Wandering through the Shelves!

This week's theme is: Halloween Edition: Jump Scares that Got You!

I get creep out easily whenever a jump scare pops up in a movie and the movies listed down below have jump scares that really caught me off guard!

1. Carrie (1976) - Carrie's hand popping out of the grave

There were many frightening scenes in the 1976 version of "Carrie."  But the ending scene where Carrie's bloodied hand suddenly popped out of the grave was so unexpected and still gives me chills to this day!

2. Get Out (2017) - Georgina suddenly looks at Chris through the window and Walter suddenly running towards Chris.

"Get Out" had a lot of jump scares for me, like the deer suddenly being hit by Chris's car at the beginning of the film and Georgina suddenly sneaking around the house at night.  But two scenes that really freaked me out were the scenes of Walter suddenly running towards Chris at night and Georgina suddenly looking at Chris through the window!

3. The Dark Knight (2008) - Brian's corpse in a Batman suit suddenly hits the window.

This is a non-horror movie example, but the scene where a man is in a Batman suit and his corpse is suddenly flung at a window had always creep me out to this day!

Thursday Movie Picks #15: Halloween Edition: Teen Horror

Hey! Welcome to Thursday Movie Picks where you get to share your movie picks for each topic presented every Thursday!  Based on the theme presented each week, you can pick up to 3 to 5 movies and explain why you picked those movies! This meme is being hosted by Wandering through the Shelves!

This week's theme is: Halloween Edition: Teen Horror!

I'm a huge fanatic when it comes to horror movies and some of the types of horror movies that I watched the most are teen horror films.  Here's a list of some of the teen horror films that I have seen over the years!

Carrie White, a shy, friendless teenage girl who is sheltered by her domineering, religious mother, unleashes her telekinetic powers after being humiliated by her classmates at her senior prom.

This was the movie that really stuck with me for a long time.  Even though I was actually introduced to Carrie through the 2002 version, the 1976 version probably had the creepiest portrayal of Carrie ever put on screen.  Especially with Sissy Spacek's terrifying eyes during the prom massacre scene!

The events of one evening take an unexpected turn for the worst for a young boy trying to spy on his babysitter.

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this movie as it was entertaining seeing a young boy trying to escape from a group of psychotic teenagers who want to use his blood for a demonic ritual!

After a teenager has a terrifying vision of him and his friends dying in a plane crash, he prevents the accident only to have Death hunt them down, one by one.

This was one of the most unique horror movies I have ever seen!  A movie where Death himself is hunting down a bunch of teenagers in order to kill them off in supernatural and over the top ways was pretty interesting to me!
