Surreal Discussions #8: Entertainment Controversies (or I JUST WANT TO WATCH A MOVIE OR PLAY A GAME)!

 

Hey everyone! Welcome to another Surreal Discussions!

Another year has gone by, so it's time to do another Surreal Discussions!

So, today's discussion is on Entertainment Controversies (or I JUST WANT TO WATCH A MOVIE OR PLAY A GAME)!

So...controversies

They are things that exist and things that can make or break a movie, TV show or video game for you.  For the last few years, there's been various controversies about a movie, a TV show or a video game, whether it be an industry problem or a celebrity problem, and whenever a controversy happens with a product, people tend to not support the movies, TV shows and video games because of said controversies.

But, what if there was a movie, a TV show or a video game that you were really looking forward to watching or playing, but you are afraid to watch or at least, you are afraid to review a movie or play a game, because you might get some backlash from viewers who are against the movie, TV show or video game, despite the fact that you are really interested in said product or you cared about said product?

Well, I have that dilemma myself oh so many times before and let me tell you, it is never a pleasant experience to go through.  On the one hand, if said movie or video game involved mistreating the people working on the projects, then I can't really support the abuse going on in the workplace since that's a subject matter that's very sensitive to me.  But on the other hand, it's a movie and a video game that I was really looking forward to and I really wanted to watch it or play it.  So, it might lead to me watching said movie or playing said game in secret or just not review it at all, just so I can avoid the backlash for just watching or playing said controversial product.  It's a very complicated situation to be in and one that has frustrated and frightened me for so many years and sometimes, it feels like I'm being forced into a corner whenever it comes down to this.

So, in a situation like this, I just have a hard time trying to decide what is the right thing to do in this situation.  On the one hand, I really want to watch said movie or play said game, despite the controversy surrounding it.  But on the other hand, I don't want to be involved in whatever controversy this product stirs up.  So yeah, this is a tough subject to figure out.

So, what do you guys think?  What do you do if there is controversy surrounding your favorite movie, TV show or video game?  Do you still watch and talk about said content or do you avoid them like the plague?

Surreal Discussions #7: I NEED HELP! (or New Laptop Woes)

 

Hey everyone! Welcome to another Surreal Discussions!

So, it's been awhile since I last did a Surreal Discussions post, hasn't it?  Well, for the past year, I haven't been as active on this blog as I wanted to and now, I'm trying to change all that!

So, today's discussion is on I NEED HELP (OR NEW LAPTOP WOES)!

*PSST! This is basically a repost of a post I made on my book blog (yes, I have a BOOK BLOG) since I'm trying to spread the word out.  So, please read this at your leisure!*

NOW WAIT A MINUTE!

You are probably asking yourself, "What does this have to do with movies and TV shows in general?"

Well, I've actually been holding this off for awhile now, but I think that now is the right time to do this.

Now, I normally don't ask for donations or anything like that since I don't want to come off as asking for money constantly.  But, for months now, I've been trying to get a new laptop and some new equipment, because I've had my current laptop for over 6 years now and I'm afraid that my laptop might break down soon since it's an old model.  If that happens then I wouldn't be able to make anymore content until I got a new laptop.

So does that mean that I won't be blogging anymore until I get a new laptop?

NOOOOOOOO!!!

I'll still be blogging and putting out content as usual, but if you would like to help me get better equipment and a new laptop so that I can put out even better content, that would be awesome and I would be very grateful for the support!  Even if it's only $1, that's still very helpful!

Surreal Discussions #6: Do you watch every movie released (or try to watch every movie until your brain fries)?

Hey everyone! Welcome to another Surreal Discussions!

Today's Surreal Discussions is about: Do you watch every movie released or do you only watch certain movies?

WHEW!  Wow, it's been awhile since I last did a surreal discussion with you guys, hasn't it?  Well, to celebrate the return of "Surreal Discussions," I'll start this off by discussing about whether or not you watch every single movie that was ever released!


Now, us movie fans have that dream where we want to watch EVERY SINGLE movie that was ever released and give out our thoughts on the movies that we've seen. But unfortunately, life gets in the way and our wishes don't come true when we have to miss out on a release of a new movie (I should know. I've struggled for YEARS in trying to go to a movie theater just to watch a movie).

But, there are other reasons why we don't watch every single movie that's ever released.  It's probably because that particular movie might have content that you don't agree with or you just don't like and therefore, you avoid that movie like the plague.  Like for instance, I might never watch "Jojo Rabbit" because it deals with Nazism and that's a topic that I'm really uncomfortable with, despite the good reviews surrounding the film.  And I rarely watch movies that have graphic sex scenes and nudity because that's also something that makes me uncomfortable.

Another reason is that you just don't have the time to watch every single movie because something gets in your way of watching said film (like school, work, partying with your friends, you get the idea).  So, by the time that you actually finished your other activities that don't involve watching movies, you would probably lose interest in watching said movie.

Now, is it bad that you don't watch every single movie ever released?

NO! DEFINITELY NOT!

Sometimes, not watching every single movie ever made would save you the trouble of having to waste your time watching a movie that was actually terrible or made you feel dead inside.  

So, overall there's nothing wrong with not being able to watch every single movie.  While you may have missed out on some great films, you also managed to avoid the movies that are actually terrible and actually save yourself from wasting some precious times of your life in watching that movie.
