Top 10 Weird Movies that I Want to See

Hey everyone!  Welcome to the "Top Lists" where I do a top 10 lists on any topics that I come across!

This week's theme is: Top 10 Weird Movies that I Want to See!

There are a lot of weird movies out there that I haven't even seen yet, despite me being a huge movie fanatic.  So, here's a list of weird movies that I haven't seen yet, but I would love to see (in no particular order)!

1. Eraserhead

Henry Spencer tries to survive his industrial environment, his angry girlfriend, and the unbearable screams of his newly born mutant child.

Honestly, I haven't seen many of David Lynch's films, but "Eraserhead" has always remained to be one of his most iconic works.  I'm really interested in seeing just how weird this movie really is and I'm even more interested in seeing the infamous "mutant baby" scene!

2. Mandy

The enchanted lives of a couple in a secluded forest are brutally shattered by a nightmarish hippie cult and their demon-biker henchmen, propelling a man into a spiraling, surreal rampage of vengeance.

This is probably one of the most recent surreal movies that was released and it was interesting seeing Nicolas Cage star in this movie.  I've been hearing lots of good things about this movie and I also heard about how weird and terrifying this movie is, which is a nice bonus for me!

3. Videodrome

When he acquires a different kind of show for his station, a sleazy cable-TV programmer begins to see his life and the future of media spin out of control in a terrifying new reality.
I never seen any of David Cronenberg's films, but I heard that they were pretty weird films! One of his weirdest films was "Videodrome" and if the premise of the film is television turning reality inside out, then you know that you just hooked me in!

4. Donnie Darko

A troubled teenager is plagued by visions of a man in a large rabbit suit who manipulates him to commit a series of crimes, after he narrowly escapes a bizarre accident.

I've been hearing lots of great things about this movie and the fact that there is a guy in a rabbit suit who messes with the protagonist throughout the film sounds really weird and interesting to watch!

5. Alice (Neco z Alenky)

A surrealistic revision of Alice in Wonderland.

I've heard about Jan Svankmajer's films, but I never seen any of them.  Probably his most well known film is "Alice," which is an adaptation of "Alice in Wonderland."  But I have to tell you, this adaptation of "Alice in Wonderland" is considered to be one of the most disturbing and twisted versions ever done with the original story and that has me really interested in checking this film out!

6. Black Swan

A committed dancer struggles to maintain her sanity after winning the lead role in a production of Tchaikovsky's "Swan Lake."

I have never seen any of Darren Aronofsky's films before.  But "Black Swan" is one of the films that everyone says that I should check out and this film seems to be one of Darren Aronofsky's most well-known and bizarre films.

7. Forbidden Zone

The bizarre and musical tale of a girl who travels to another dimension through the gateway found in her family's basement.

I've been seeing some images from this film and from what I've seen, this seems like one of the most bizarre black and white films that I have ever seen!  I can't wait to dive into this film soon!

8. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

When their relationship turns sour, a couple undergoes a medical procedure to have each other erased from their memories.

I've been hearing nothing but great things about this movie and since Jim Carrey is in this movie, I'm definitely going to check it out!  Also, I'm interested in seeing how the movie tackles the theme of going inside other people's heads and how their thoughts are processed!

9. Blood Tea and Red String

A handmade stop-motion fairy tale for adults that tells the tale of the struggle between the aristocratic White Mice and the rustic Creatures Who Dwell Under the Oak over the doll of their heart's desire.

This movie seems like it's inspired by Jan Svankmajer's works and I am curious to see just what kind of movie this is!

10. Little Otik (Greedy Guts)

When a childless couple learn that they cannot have children, it causes great distress.  To ease his wife's pain, the man finds a piece of root in the backyard and chops it and varnishes it into the shape of a child.  However the woman takes the root as her baby and starts to pretend that it is real.  When the root takes life they seem to have gained a child; but its appetite is much greater than a normal child.

I remembered reading a Russian folktale version of this story when I was little and I was quite terrified of that book, especially with the illustrations of the clay boy eating his parents and the people in town.  So, imagine my surprise when I heard that Jan Svankmajer is also adapting this tale.  I would love to see how Jan Svankmajer adapted this tale and if its scarier than the book I read!

Well, that's my top 10 weird movies that I want to see and I'm hoping to watch all of these movies soon!

What weird movies haven't you seen yet and what weird movies do you think I should watch?  Please let me know in the comments down below!

  2. Eraserhead is like the ultimate weird movie! Fun to discover a couple I hadn't heard of "Blood Tea and Red String" and "Little Otik". The latter sounds like a creepy horror. There's a movie called "Baby" (1973) which might be even weirder!

  3. I have seen Donny Darko which is quite good and quite weird. Ughhh...I hate...hate Black Swan. I found it dull and annoying and coal it Psycho swan. I haven’t seen any of the others but always wanted to see Eraserhead.
