Hey! Welcome to Thursday Movie Picks where you get to share your movie picks for each topic presented every Thursday! Based on the theme presented each week, you can pick up to 3 to 5 movies and explain why you picked those movies! This meme is being hosted by Wandering through the Shelves!
This week's theme is: Halloween Edition: Teen Horror!
I'm a huge fanatic when it comes to horror movies and some of the types of horror movies that I watched the most are teen horror films. Here's a list of some of the teen horror films that I have seen over the years!
Carrie White, a shy, friendless teenage girl who is sheltered by her domineering, religious mother, unleashes her telekinetic powers after being humiliated by her classmates at her senior prom.
This was the movie that really stuck with me for a long time. Even though I was actually introduced to Carrie through the 2002 version, the 1976 version probably had the creepiest portrayal of Carrie ever put on screen. Especially with Sissy Spacek's terrifying eyes during the prom massacre scene!
The events of one evening take an unexpected turn for the worst for a young boy trying to spy on his babysitter.
I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this movie as it was entertaining seeing a young boy trying to escape from a group of psychotic teenagers who want to use his blood for a demonic ritual!
After a teenager has a terrifying vision of him and his friends dying in a plane crash, he prevents the accident only to have Death hunt them down, one by one.
This was one of the most unique horror movies I have ever seen! A movie where Death himself is hunting down a bunch of teenagers in order to kill them off in supernatural and over the top ways was pretty interesting to me!
I've only seen bits of Final Destination which while kind of crappy at least stuck to it's root idea pretty well.
ReplyDeleteHaven't seen the Babysitter but we match with Carrie which looks to be popular this week and rightly so. It's one of the best films in the genre and certainly has one of, if not the best, lead actress in any movie with this theme.
Aside from our match I went with two that were enormous hits in their day even if quality wise they don't approach Carrie's skillfulness.
Carrie (1976)-Carrie White (Sissy Spacek) an introverted teenager is taunted by classmates at school and abused by her fanatically pious mother Margaret (Piper Laurie) at home. When strange occurrences start happening around Carrie, she begins to suspect that she has supernatural powers. Invited to the prom by teen dream Tommy Ross (William Katt), Carrie tries to let her guard down, but things eventually take a dark and violent turn to a fiery conclusion. Both Sissy and Piper are fantastic in this above average adaptation of Stephen King’s novel.
The Lost Boys (1987)-New in town teen brothers Michael (Jason Patric) and Sam (Corey Haim) and their mom Lucy (Dianne Wiest) have just moved to a small town in northern California. Somewhat goofy young Sam befriends geeky comic-book nerds Edward (Corey Feldman) and Alan (Jamison Newlander) while the combative Michael falls for Star (Jami Gertz). Problem is Star is dominated by David (Kiefer Sutherland), leader of a local gang of vampires. Soon things come to a showdown and Sam and his new friends must save Michael and Star from the undead. A classic case of style over substance, and the birth of the Coreys, but enjoyably junky.
I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997)-Four friends Julie (Jennifer Love Hewitt), Barry (Ryan Phillippe), Helen (Sarah Michelle Gellar) and Ray (Freddie Prinze Jr.) are speeding down a road late one night and are involved in a hit and run killing a fisherman which they dispose of in nearby water. They swear to keep it a secret but a year later Julie receives a letter telling her that their crime was seen. Barry thinks he knows who is responsible for the letter but is run over by a man with a meat hook during the pursuit. It’s then that the screaming starts! Wacky trash is fun in its silly way but lead to far too many sequels and copycats.
Glad we both agree on Carrie! I still need to watch I Know What You Did Last Summer. I've been hearing lots of good things about that movie!
DeleteWe match on Carrie! I really enjoyed Final Destination when it first came out. I didn't mind the sequel either, but the ones after that were lacking.
ReplyDeleteI still need to watch The Babysitter.
I didn't care much for the Final Destination sequels either, but I liked the first two movies enough.
DeleteYou should definitely check out the Babysitter! It's a fun movie!
All such fun choices! Carrie is amazing. That recent remake of it was so dreadful
ReplyDeleteI agree! I didn't care much for the Carrie remake either. I felt that the original 1976 version should never be remade.
DeleteI almost picked The Babysitter but I'd literally just reviewed it!
ReplyDeleteI got taken to see one of the FD movies on Valentines Day, and it put me off the franchise all together, ha!
Oh my god! You saw Final Destination on Valentine's Day? That must have ruined your day!
DeleteI saw 2 of your picks-Carrie is excellent and seems to be popular this week. I also saw Destination which scared the crap out of me. I can't see it again...too scary, just like The Ring.
ReplyDeleteI still haven't seen the Ring yet, although I'm not sure if I want to.
