50 Movie TAG Questions

 

Hey everyone!  Man, it's been awhile since I last did a tag post.  So, I found this movie tag over at Movie and Television Blog and I wanted to give it a shot!  So, here are 50 questions relating to movies and I'll answer each question the best I can!

1. How often do you watch a movie ?

I tend to watch movies almost every week!

2. What movie genre are you particularly fond of ?

I mostly watch a lot of fantasy, action, romance and horror films.

3. What was the last movie you watched and liked ?

Unicorn Wars!  I was pleasantly surprised by this movie and I loved how dark and emotional this movie really was!

4. What was the last movie you watched and hated?

The Drop.  I wasn't a huge fan of this movie as most of the characters were very unlikable.

5. What is your fave movie of all time? 

The Lion King (the original 1994 movie, that is)!  This animated film was a pure masterpiece for me and it was one that I constantly watched as a kid.

6. Your fave guilty pleasure movie ?

Tom and Jerry: The Movie (the original 1992 animated film). Yeah, I know not a lot of Tom and Jerry fans liked this movie, but compared to the live action movie that was just released, this one was much better in my opinion.

7. What movie have you watched a million times already ?

The Nightmare Before Christmas. Even though I tend to watch this movie every October, this is still a film I watch frequently whenever I get the chance to!

8. Are you the type who watches a movie on its first day of showing? 

Sometimes. It really depends on whether or not I can get to the movie theater at all for the movies.

9. Do you use fandango or prebook movie tickets?

I tend to use Fandango for movie tickets.

10. Movie House, Bluray or download ?

I mostly been buying Blu-rays of all the movies that I'm interested in buying.

11. How often do you go to the cinema to watch a movie ?

Rarely.  I don't have enough money to watch a movie in theaters constantly.

12. What are the movies that made you cry ?

Both the Lion King and Titanic made me cry, because some really important characters ended up dying in both films!

13. Do you watch foreign films? 

Occasionally, whenever I'm able to check any out. Although I rarely do watch them because I have a hard time trying to read the subtitles, while watching the movie at the same time.

14. What are your favourite foreign films? 

I loved watching Unicorn Wars, Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke.  Both Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke were made in Japan and Unicorn Wars was a French / Spanish animated film.

15. Who are your favourite directors? 

My favorite directors are Steven Spielberg and Tim Burton.

16. Are you particular with movie scores / soundtracks / music ?

Yes, I'm very interested in movie scores and soundtracks. I actually listen to a lot of them on YouTube whenever I have the time to.

17. What movie soundtracks can be found in your I pod? 

I don't have an Ipod, so I can't really answer this question.

18. Have you ever watched a movie alone in the cinema ?

No, I never watched a movie alone. I usually go out to the movies with my family.

19. Is there any movie that’s changed your perspective on life ?

Both The Nightmare Before Christmas and Beetlejuice had helped me embrace being creative in my projects and learning how to love myself for who I am.

20. Your favourite comic book movie ?

The Dark Knight. I'm a huge Batman fan and this movie is probably the best superhero movie I have ever seen!

21. DC or Marvel movies ?

I personally love Marvel movies more since they have some of my favorite comic book characters like the X-Men and Spider-Man.

22. What are the movies in the top 10 in IMDB that you’ve watched ?

I've seen The Dark Knight, The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, Pulp Fiction and The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.

23. Do you read movie critic reviews before watching a film ?

No. I tend to watch the movies anyway, without reading what a critic thinks first.

24. What’s the best movie adapted from a book ?

Shrek.  This movie was based off a children's book and I honestly think this movie was way better than the book.

25. Do you watch the movie before reading the book or vice versa ?

It depends on what I picked up first, but I tend to read the book first before watching the movie.

26. What is your favourite comedy movie? 

Disney's Aladdin (the original 1992 animated movie).  I remembered growing up with this movie as a kid and remembering just how funny this movie was!  Also, the late Robin Williams was in this movie, so that was a definite plus for me!

27. Favourite drama movie ?

9.  This may seem like an unusual choice since it's mostly sci-fi horror, but there are some dramatic moments in this film and it's a film that I really enjoyed watching! 

28. Favourite western movie ?

I don't watch western movies.

29. Fave romantic comedy? 

Stardust.  Oh my goodness!  I used to watch this movie all the time and I just loved the romantic leads in this film and how comedic this film was!

30. Fave horror? 

The Shining.  This is my all-time favorite horror movie and Jack Nicholson was fantastic as the main character!  I also loved how atmospheric and horrifying this movie really was!

31. Fave sports movie ?

I don't watch a lot of sports movies.

32. Fave Sci fi ?

WALL-E.  This is such an adorable and interesting movie about robots that I just love so much!

33. Action movies?

The Matrix.  I just loved the cyber world and the awesome moves that Neo is able to do in the movie!

34. War movies?

I don't watch war movies.

35. Who is your favourite movie couple?

Jack and Rose from Titanic.  I just love their interactions with each other and they are the perfect example of a lovely couple who are from different social classes.

36. Any movie character you can relate to ?

I actually relate to Lydia Deetz from Beetlejuice the most.  I'm also into strange things and I'm also interested in some spooky stuff!

37. If you were only to watch five movies for the rest of your life what would they be ?

38. Your least favourite movie of all time ?

The Cat in the Hat.  That movie destroyed everything that I loved about the Cat in the Hat.

39. Have you ever watched a movie based on the lead actor / actress only?

Sometimes.  I remembered I used to watch a lot of movies that had Robin Williams in the lead role.

40. What movie you expected and wanted to be good but failed you ?

The Cat in the Hat, once again.  After watching Jim Carrey's How the Grinch Stole Christmas, I thought that I would enjoy this movie as much as I did for the Grinch.  But unfortunately, that wasn't the case with the Cat in the Hat.

41. Favourite movie character of all time?

Jack Skellington!  He is such a charismatic and awesome character and he's a SKELETON!

42. Favourite movie villain?

Judge Claude Frollo from The Hunchback of Notre Dame.  Not only is Frollo my all-time favorite Disney villain, but he's definitely my all-time favorite movie villain due to how cold and calculating he is!

43. Any movie sequel you’re still waiting to see?

There's a lot of movie sequels out there that I want to see, but I'm definitely looking forward to Sonic the Hedgehog 3 coming out in 2024!

44. Ever made a movie review ?

I've been reviewing movies ever since 2010!

45. Star Wars or Star Trek?

Star Trek since I watched that more than Star Wars.

46. Right now think of any movie. What comes first?

That's a tough question....not sure how to answer that.

WOW!  It's been 30 years already?  So, 30 years ago, there was a summer blockbuster film that changed the game of cinema forever and that movie was none other than "Jurassic Park!"  I remembered when the movie first came out and how big it was at the time and after I recently rewatched this movie, I was surprised at how well this movie has held up after all of these years.

So, before I talk about my thoughts on this movie, let's discuss about what this movie is all about.  

Billionaire John Hammond (played by Richard Attenborough) had figured out a way to bring dinosaurs back to life through a cloning process and in order to make a profit off of this, he had a theme park built on a remote island called "Jurassic Park" where the dinosaurs will be shown to the world.  John Hammond then decided to show off the theme park to a few invited guests, which included paleontologist Alan Grant (played by Sam Neil), paleobotanist Ellie Sattler (played by Laura Dern), Ian Malcolm (played by Jeff Goldblum), lawyer Donald Gennaro (played by Martin Ferrero) and Hammond's two grandkids Tim and Lex Murphy.  But unfortunately, because the organizers of the park wanted to show off the park so quickly, they didn't bother getting any security personnel and automated everything with unreliable computers.  All of this unplanning of good security measures for the park ultimately led to the dinosaurs going on a rampage, which starts endangering all of the guests' lives.

So, what made this movie into such an iconic film?  Well, of course we got to talk about the SPECIAL EFFECTS!  Oh my goodness, the special effects were some of the best things to ever come out of this movie!  The fact that the dinosaurs looked and moved so realistically really made this film memorable to me and I loved how terrifying the dinosaurs were in this movie, especially the T-Rex.  The fact that the special effects used for the dinosaurs still hold up to this very day made this one of the few films from the 1990s to still hold up on a technical level.

Another aspect that I liked about this film were the THEMES it explored. This film discusses about the dangers of trying to control something that you can't control and *GASP* safety concerns.  The fact that the film is about John Hammond trying to control the dinosaurs for his theme park, but not heeding the dangers of how untamed and dangerous the dinosaurs really are had always hit home for me. Because it made me realize that sometimes there are things in life that are beyond your control and you need to realize when you can take on said situation head on or be cautious in dealing with it.  Also, the fact that this movie somewhat preaches about the importance of safety protocols, which is shown when the organizers of Jurassic Park didn't put in proper safety measures just in case the dinosaurs go berserk, was really telling to me about the consequences of greed and how greed can end up doing you in at times.

And of course, I cannot forget the performances that each actor and actress had given throughout this film, especially Sam Neil's portrayal of Alan Grant, Laura Dern's portrayal of Ellie and of course, Jeff Goldblum's portrayal of Ian Malcolm, who provided one of my all-time favorite movie quotes:

"Yeah, yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could that they didn't stop to think if they should."

But overall, this film was such an iconic centerpiece in cinema as it provided some of the best special effects seen in any movie during the 1990s that still holds up to this very day and it also had lots of deep messages about the dangers of dealing with things that are beyond your control and being more hands on when it comes to safety protocols that still remains relevant to this day.  For anyone who has not seen this movie before, GO WATCH IT!  It's definitely worth your time and you will easily see why this movie became such an icon over the years!

Top 10 Movies of 2020 (Non-Weird Edition)

 

Hey everyone!  Welcome to the "Top Lists" where I do a top 10 lists on any topics that I come across!


This week's theme is: Top 10 Movies of 2020 (Non-Weird Edition)!


Now, I will occasionally do lists that has nothing to do with weird movies or have some weird movies, but they don't make up the bulk of the list.  So, I wanted to tell you guys my top 10 movies of 2020!  Keep in mind though that this list is based on my personal opinions, so there might be some movies on this list that you guys might not agree with.  Also, I made a YouTube video about this list, so if you want to see this list in video form, then check out my video HERE!

10. Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey

This was a recent Christmas musical that was released on Netflix last year in December and I just had to watch it because it's a Christmas movie and I love Christmas movies and because the premise sounded so interesting!  I ended up enjoying this movie because all of the performances were very well done, especially Forest Whitaker as the famous toy maker Jeronicus and Keegan-Michael Key as the antagonist Gustafson!  This movie made the list because of the gorgeous special effects and because of the memorable songs!  This is definitely worth the watch if you are looking for a good Christmas musical to watch during the holidays!

9. The Babysitter: Killer Queen

Well, here it is!  The long awaited sequel to 2017's "The Babysitter," which I had reviewed on this site!  Anyway, I've been dying to see more adventures from Cole and the gang and I have to say that I really had fun with this sequel!  Sure, I will admit that the ending was a bit weak, but it's great seeing all of the characters from the first film make a return and seeing the gore and comedy ramped up in the sequel!

8. Enola Holmes

I have a confession to make:  I have never read a single "Sherlock Holmes" book.  So, I don't really know that much about the character, other than he's a famous detective.  However, when I found out that there was a movie about Sherlock Holmes having a little sister who also happens to be a detective, I just had to check this movie out for myself.  And lo and behold, I ended up really enjoying this movie!  Millie Bobby Brown did a fantastic job at portraying Enola Holmes and Henry Cavill did a great job at portraying Sherlock Holmes himself!  The only problem I had with this movie was the fact that Enola kept talking to the audience and it sort of distracted me a bit from parts of the film.  But overall, a very enjoyable and fun film if you are a huge fan of Sherlock Holmes!

7. Sonic the Hedgehog

I will admit that at first I was a bit hesitant about this movie, even after they changed Sonic's design to something much cuter and closer to his game counterpart (remember that horrible first design? Uggghh...)  But, after watching this movie, it became one of my favorite movies of 2020!  I just loved the unique take they had on Sonic's character as Sonic is much more emotional in this movie, which made him even more interesting!  Jim Carrey's performance as Dr. Robotnik was a pleasant surprise for me as he made Robotnik both threatening and hilarious at the same time!  Sure, the plot was a bit generic, but I still had a lot of fun with this movie and I can't wait for the sequel to come!  I hope the sequel is really good!

6. Bad Hair

Man, Hulu always has the best weird movies imaginable and "Bad Hair" was one of those weird horror movies that I really enjoyed!  So, it's basically about this young woman who decided to get some weave for her hair and it turns out that said weave is actually an evil entity that ends up eating anybody it comes across to.  Now, the premise might sound ridiculous, but I really enjoyed this movie for tackling the issues about how appearances affects a person's standing in the work place, as well as giving us some good scares regarding the demon hair!

5. Wonder Woman 1984

Now, you are probably wondering to yourself: why did you put this movie on the list?  Isn't this movie terrible?  Honestly, I don't think this movie is as terrible as many people think it is.  Sure, it's not as good as the first movie (a problem that most sequels have) and there are many problems with this movie like the slow pacing and some questionable decisions regarding the characters.  But, I genuinely thought that this movie did a great job with the character developments, especially with Diana and Steve's relationship with each other and I found this movie to be quite inspirational and fun to watch, even if the plot got confusing at times. Definitely worth the watch if you are a Wonder Woman fan!

4. Birds of Prey

Harley Quinn!  One of my all-time favorite DC villains!  So of course, when I heard that Harley Quinn was getting her own movie, I was both hesitant and excited at the same time.  Excited, because I love Harley Quinn and hesitant because of the fact it came out after "Suicide Squad," which was a pretty controversial movie.  But, after I finally saw this movie, I was completely blown away by how awesome Margot Robbie's performance of Harley Quinn was and I just loved the colorful and creative look of this film!  I'm definitely looking forward to seeing more of Harley Quinn in future films!

3. Palm Springs

Oh my goodness!  This movie was the biggest surprise for me!  When I started watching this movie, I was expecting to watch a normal romantic comedy.  But then when the halfway point hit and the movie turned into a sci-fi adventure, I was totally blown away!  I always loved movies where it starts off like a normal movie, but then it does a complete 180 midway through the plot, taking you off by surprise!  Andy Samberg and Cristin Milioti's performances were the highlights of this film and I can't wait to watch this film again!

2. Project Power

Now, I love superhero films and even though there were some superhero films on this list that were pretty traditional (good guys fight the bad guys), "Project Power" was an interesting case where the lines between good and bad can be blurred and it does it so well!  The action sequences were very well done and Jamie Foxx and Joseph Gordon-Levitt both did fantastic jobs in their roles!

1. The Trial of the Chicago 7

Wow!  This has to be the most amazing movie I've seen in 2020!  I will admit that I thought that I wasn't going to like this movie because of the fact that it's a courtroom drama and I rarely watch movies that deal with courtroom dramas.  But this movie blew me away with all the fantastic performances, especially from Sacha Baron Cohen and the fact that this movie is based off of real life events that I wasn't taught in school!  Such a fascinating and intense movie that you got to see to believe!

The Animation Tag!

 

Hey everyone!  I'm doing a tag for this blog for the very first time, which is called the "Animation Tag!"  This tag was created by Dbmoviesblog and I wanted to do this tag because I'm a huge fan of animation and I wanted to talk about some of my favorite animations over the years!  So, let's get started!

1. Favourite Disney animation?

The Lion King (1994)

2. Favourite non-Disney animation?

The Snowman (1982).  Seriously, one of the most beautiful and heartbreaking animations I have ever seen!

3. Criminally-underseen animation you recommend to everyone?

I have two animations that come to mind:

The first one is "The Nutcracker Prince."  It was an animated film that came out in 1990 and it is about the Nutcracker Prince fighting off the Mouse King.  It also had a young Kiefer Sutherland (you know, Jack Bauer from "24") voicing the Nutcracker Prince himself!  It's a fantastic movie that's heavily underrated.

Another one is Rabbit Ears' "The Fool and the Flying Ship."  While not a lengthy movie per se, it's still worth checking out, especially if you love Russian folktales and watching weird animation!

4. Visually great animation, but narratively disappointing?

I thought that Disney's Chicken Little had stunning animation, but the story wasn't really that good.

5. Narratively great animation, but visually disappointing?

The Brave Little Toaster.  The story about the appliances trying to find their master was really good, but the animation was a bit lacking and I kind of wished that they used the same animation from the Disney films that came out around the 1980s.

6. Favourite piece of music from animation?

Anything done by the late James Horner.  But his music in "We're Back! A Dinosaur's Story" really stood out to me as being one of the most beautiful pieces of music he has ever composed!

7. First memorable animations from your childhood?

Probably one of the earliest animations I've seen from my childhood was "Grimm's Fairy Tale Classics." It was an old anime series that came out during the 1980s and it was my first introduction to anime!

8. Animation that always makes you laugh?

The Fool and the Flying Ship of course and as for TV shows, the Angry Beavers still continue to make me laugh to this day!

9. Already released animation you would like to see?

I would love to see Spider-Man: Into the Spider Verse since I've been hearing nothing but good things about that movie and I'm a huge Spider-Man fan, so that's definitely a plus for me!  Another film I wanted to see was Moana.  I love it when Disney explores different cultures and this seems like a movie that I would enjoy!

10. New animation release you are anticipating?

Raya and the Last Dragon.  I love movies that explore other cultures and this movie is the one I'm most anticipating because it's about Dragons and I love watching movies that deal with dragons.
