Thursday Movie Picks #66: Island Movies

Hey! Welcome to Thursday Movie Picks where you get to share your movie picks for each topic presented every Thursday!  Based on the theme presented each week, you can pick up to 3 to 5 movies and explain why you picked those movies! This meme is being hosted by Wandering through the Shelves!

This week's theme is: Island Movies!

Now, I have seen a lot of movies that take place on an island and I'm so excited for this week's theme!  So, here are some island movies that I've seen!

1. Moana

In Ancient Polynesia, when a terrible curse incurred by the Demigod Maui reaches Moana's island, she answers the Ocean's call to seek out the Demigod to set things right.

When this movie first came out, I wasn't able to watch it at the time since I was too busy with watching other movies that came out at the time.  But, when I finally watched this movie, I found myself falling in love with this movie!  Of course, Dwayne Johnson was fantastic as Maui and Moana was such an awesome and relatable heroine!

A pragmatic paleontologist touring an almost complete theme park on an island in Central America is tasked with protecting a couple of kids after a power failure causes the park's cloned dinosaurs to run loose.

Believe it or not, this movie does take place on an island!  I remembered when this movie first came out and how excited I was about this movie!  This has remained to be my favorite movie in the Jurassic Park movie franchise and it's one that I'm always happy to rewatch!

3. Cast Away

A FedEx executive undergoes a physical and emotional transformation after crash landing on a deserted island.

I remembered when this movie first came out and how popular it was.  I thought that Tom Hanks did a fantastic job at acting in this movie and I really felt bad for the main character being stranded on the island and how his life had changed because of that.

Thursday Movie Picks #65: Failure to Launch

Hey! Welcome to Thursday Movie Picks where you get to share your movie picks for each topic presented every Thursday!  Based on the theme presented each week, you can pick up to 3 to 5 movies and explain why you picked those movies! This meme is being hosted by Wandering through the Shelves!

This week's theme is: Failure to Launch!

Hey everyone!  Sorry I haven't been active when it came to TMP.  I've been pretty busy these last few weeks.  Anyway, this week's theme is "Failure to Launch," which I will be listing movies that were meant to be launch into movie franchises, but ended up failing to become franchises.

In a parallel universe, young Lyra Belacqua journeys to the far North to save her best friend and other kidnapped children from terrible experiments by a mysterious organization.

This movie was an attempt to bring Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials book series as a movie franchise.  But, the movie bombed and there were no more movies made after this movie.  I've seen this movie and I thought that it was okay.  The only scene I really liked in this movie was the polar bear fight scene and I'm glad that it's getting a new TV series instead.

Reckless test pilot Hal Jordan is granted an alien ring that bestows him with otherworldly powers that inducts him into an intergalactic police force, the Green Lantern Corps.
Yes, yes...we all know about this trainwreck of a DC movie that was supposed to jumpstart the DCEU (but it failed).  So, because of this movie, it's hard to say if we will ever see another Green Lantern movie again in future DC movies or if Ryan Reynolds is willing to come back to the role.  Let's hope that if they make another Green Lantern movie in the future, it will be much better than this movie.

3. The Last Airbender

Follows the adventures of Aang, a young successor to a long line of Avatars, who must master all four elements and stop the Fire Nation from enslaving the Water Tribes and the Earth Kingdom.

Okay, so as someone who is a massive fan of the Avatar: The Last Airbender TV series, this movie really disappointed me.  For one thing, they rushed through all the storylines in the series and tried to cram it in one movie (which is always a bad idea) and secondly, they made the characters meaner for some reason whereas in the TV series, they were very likable.  So, I was glad that this movie bombed and we didn't have to see anymore of this movie franchise.

Thursday Movie Picks #64: Movies with a Body Part in the Title

Hey! Welcome to Thursday Movie Picks where you get to share your movie picks for each topic presented every Thursday!  Based on the theme presented each week, you can pick up to 3 to 5 movies and explain why you picked those movies! This meme is being hosted by Wandering through the Shelves!

This week's theme is: Movies with a Body Part in the Title!

Wow!  This is a really interesting topic!  There are many movies out there that have body parts in the title, whether that's related to said body part or not.  But, here are some movies with body parts in the title that I'm either interested in or have seen before!

An artificial man, who was incompletely constructed and has scissor for hands, leads a solitary life.  Then one day, a suburban lady meets him and introduces him to her world.

I've seen this movie when I was younger and I remembered being sadden by Edward's inability to be accepted into society because of his scissor hands.  I definitely need to rewatch this film sometime down the line!

2. Jaws

When a killer shark unleashes chaos on a beach community off Long Island, it's up to a local sheriff, a marine biologist, and an old seafarer to hunt the beast down.

This is an old school classic that I still haven't seen yet, even though I own this movie on Blu-Ray.  I better start watching this movie soon!

3. Happy Feet

Into the world of the Emperor Penguins, who find their soul mates through song, a penguin is born who cannot sing.  But he can tap dance something fierce!

Not my most favorite movie in the world, but I do think that the concept about penguins singing and dancing was pretty entertaining!

Thursday Movie Picks #63: 2021 Releases

Hey! Welcome to Thursday Movie Picks where you get to share your movie picks for each topic presented every Thursday!  Based on the theme presented each week, you can pick up to 3 to 5 movies and explain why you picked those movies! This meme is being hosted by Wandering through the Shelves!

This week's theme is: 2021 Releases!

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!  Wow, 2021 was an...okay year.  There's still the issue of the pandemic going on, but at least I got to watch a lot of awesome movies in 2021!  So, here are my top 3 favorite movies of 2021!

Supervillains Harley Quinn, Bloodsport, Peacemaker and a collection of nutty cons at Belle Reve prison join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X as they are dropped off at the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese.

Oh my goodness!  Even though I was always excited for this movie, I never thought that this movie would be so good!  Everyone in this movie was fantastic and the visual effects were so stunning!  My favorite characters in this movie were definitely Harley Quinn and Bloodsport! I can't wait to see more from this movie!

Madison is paralyzed by shocking visions of grisly murders, and her torment worsens as she discovers that these waking dreams are in fact terrifying realities.

Now, while this movie was a mixed bag for most people, I personally enjoyed this movie!  I thought that the tension was very well done and I especially loved the twist towards the end of the movie!  What a fantastic movie directed by James Wan!

3. Gunpowder Milkshake

Three generations of women fight back against those who could take everything from them.

Wow!  I had a fun time with this movie!  Karen Gillan was fantastic as the main heroine and this movie had a lot of Kill Bill vibes to it, which I really enjoyed!  I'm hoping they make a sequel to this soon!
