The short starts off with a drunken old man going to an art museum, despite the fact that said museum is closed on Mondays.  As the old man goes inside the museum, he starts noticing that the artwork is coming to life!

"Closed Mondays" was an animated short that was directed by Will Vinton and Bob Gardiner and it was often considered one of the pioneering works of Stop Motion animation.  Now, I have heard of Will Vinton's works before, especially the California Raisins and "The Adventures of Mark Twain" and I'm aware of his reputation as being the "Godfather of Claymation."  However, I was quite surprised that he made an animated short way back in the 1970s and one that was like the WEIRDEST thing that I have ever seen from him!  I must admit that I was quite impressed with this short as it was weird and yet so beautifully animated!  I just loved the facial expressions on the drunken old man as his facial expressions look so realistic and I especially loved the moments where the man looked so surprised and confused at the artwork coming to life.  I also loved the way that the artworks coming to life were animated as it was done in a fluid way and I was quite impressed and terrified of the scene where a machine ends up malfunctioning and started changing into these different forms, including Albert Einstein himself!  I also loved how bizarre this short was as I was wondering to myself about why the artwork came to life so suddenly and that ending was so confusing and mysterious!

The only problem that I have with this short is that the plot is a bit confusing (although that's pretty much a given with over 90% of the shorts that I review on this blog).  I'm curious about why the artwork came to life in the first place and just what was up with that ending?  I can't really say too  much about the ending without spoiling things for people who haven't seen this short yet.  But I have to say that the ending has got me thinking about what was really going on in this short.

Overall, "Closed Mondays" is one of the most bizarre animations that I have ever seen from Will Vinton and it definitely deserved its recognition as being one of the pioneering works of Stop Motion animation with its gorgeous animation and unique plot!

Thursday Movie Picks #45: Bookish Movies

Hey! Welcome to Thursday Movie Picks where you get to share your movie picks for each topic presented every Thursday!  Based on the theme presented each week, you can pick up to 3 to 5 movies and explain why you picked those movies! This meme is being hosted by Wandering through the Shelves!

This week's theme is: Bookish Movies!

Now, if there's one thing that I love more than movies, it's BOOKS!  I am so happy that we are doing a theme that deals with books and I have decided to go with movies where books either play a major role in the movie or defines a character!

A prince cursed to spend his days as a hideous monster sets out to regain his humanity by earning a young woman's love.

Now, THIS is the movie that really got me into reading!  The whole movie might not be focused entirely on books, but the main character Belle LOVES READING BOOKS and one of my all-time favorite scenes in this movie was when the Beast was showing Belle the library and you can see Belle's happiness and wonder in this entire scene!

2. Dead Poets Society

Maverick teacher John Keating uses poetry to embolden his boarding school students to new heights of self-expression.

I know, I know.  I featured this movie before, but man, I SERIOUSLY love this movie!  The fact that the students in this movie used poetry as a way to shape their lives was really inspiring to me and that's one of the reasons why I enjoy watching this movie!

Story of a wonderful little girl, who happens to be a genius, and her wonderful teacher vs. the worst parents ever and the worst school principal imaginable.

I feel like the 1990s was a GOOD time to be a book reader!  So many AWESOME movies that dealt with books came out this decade and "Matilda" was among those movies that features the main character being a BOOK READER that I really enjoyed!  Mara Wilson was fantastic as Matilda and I enjoyed every scene where she tells everyone her love for books!

Thursday Movie Picks #44: Television Edition: Horror

Hey! Welcome to Thursday Movie Picks where you get to share your movie picks for each topic presented every Thursday!  Based on the theme presented each week, you can pick up to 3 to 5 movies and explain why you picked those movies! This meme is being hosted by Wandering through the Shelves!

This week's theme is: Television Edition: Horror!

Now, I love watching lots of horror themed TV shows and since this is Halloween Week, I have decided to choose horror themed TV shows that I have watched!

A young woman, destined to slay vampires, demons and other infernal creatures, deals with her life fighting evil, with the help of her friends.

OH MAN!  I just loved watching this series when it first came out!  Sarah Michelle Gellar was fantastic as Buffy and I loved the way that the show handled the horror aspects of the series with Buffy fighting monsters; while also dealing with life issues that Buffy has to face, like how her monster hunting affects her on a personal level.

A series of scary anthology stories based on the children's books by R.L. Stine.  Series one was hosted by R.L. Stine.

I remembered I used to watch this show a lot when I was little and I was always amazed by the horrifying stories in this series!  The one episode that always stayed with me were the Living Dummy episodes since I still remembered that scary looking face on one of the books!

After an au pair's tragic death, Henry hires a young American nanny to care for his orphaned niece and nephew who reside at Bly Manor with Chef Owen, groundskeeper Jamie and housekeeper, Mrs. Grose.

I'm still watching this show, but from what I've seen so far, I'm really liking it!  I just loved the way that this series handled the tension at the manor without using too many jump scares and I'm really interested in the mystery of the manor and the kids!
