This week's theme is: 2019 Releases!
1. Midsommar
A couple travels to Sweden to visit a rural hometown's fabled mid-summer festival. What begins as an idyllic retreat quickly devolves into an increasingly violent and bizarre competition at the hands of a pagan cult.
Seriously, I can't believe that I haven't seen this movie yet! I've been hearing lots of good things about this movie and about how DISTURBING it is. Well, I'm in the mood for a good horror movie, so I may as well give this movie a shot.
2. Joker
In Gotham City, mentally troubled comedian Arthur Fleck is disregarded and mistreated by society. He then embarks on a downward spiral of revolution and bloody crime. This path brings him face-to-face with his alter-ego: the Joker.
3. Us
A family's serene beach vacation turns to chaos when their doppelgangers appear and begin to terrorize them.
I had watched "Get Out" and I really LOVED that film! So, when I heard that Jordan Peele was directing another horror movie, I really wanted to see it! But, I never got the chance to watch "Us" in theaters. Luckily though, I managed to get this movie for Christmas, so it won't be long now until I finally watch it!
Extra Movie:
4. Ready or Not
A bride's wedding night takes a sinister turn when her eccentric new in-laws force her to take part in a terrifying game.
I just had to add an extra movie to this list because there were so many awesome films released in 2019 that I didn't see and "Ready or Not" was one of those movies that I was really interested in! I loved Samara Weaving's performance in "The Babysitter," so I really want to watch this movie!
I love all your picks minus Joker which is trash lol
ReplyDeleteLOL! Thanks (for the three movies on this list)!
DeleteUs was so good! I meant to see Ready or No but never got around to it!
ReplyDeleteI've been hearing lots of good things about Us, so I'm really excited to see it soon!
DeleteI haven't seen any of these, but I'm not a horror guy which all of these lean into.
ReplyDeleteI am curious about Midsommar which from the descriptions I've heard and read has a very Wicker Man vibe (the original not the trash Nic Cage redo). On the other end of the scale I have zero interest in seeing Joker.
I only saw these three films in the theatre last year which made choosing easy.
Rocketman-Chronicle of Elton John’s early life, rise to stardom and semi fall and rise from the ashes all set to his music. Shot very much in the fashion of The Who’s rock opera Tommy and anchored by a brilliant turn by Taron Egerton who does his own singing and who was absolutely robbed of an Oscar nomination!
Knives Out-Fun, stylish mystery in the Agatha Christie fashion with an eye-popping cast, though both Jamie Lee Curtis & Toni Collette are underused, and amazing production design. Does it make a great deal of sense? Not particularly but an enjoyable ride.
A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood-Bitter Esquire writer Lloyd Vogel (Matthew Rhys) who has major daddy issues it grudgingly assigned to do an interview and brief article on Fred Rogers (Tom Hanks). Dead set against believing anyone could be as pure of heart as Mr. Rogers appears to be he initially sets out to expose him only to discover that in this case he was mistaken. He comes away from their time together a better man. Rhys is good in the lead but this film is owned by Tom Hanks who though he doesn’t necessarily look or sound like Mr. Rogers captures his humanity.
Oooh! I've heard a lot of good things about Knives Out! I really need to check that movie out!
DeleteSkip Joker and please, please watch Midsommar and Us :)
ReplyDeleteI'll definitely watch Midsommar and Us!
DeleteJoker is trash but Midsommar and Ready or Not are wonderful!
ReplyDeleteCool! I'm definitely looking forward to Midsommar and Ready or Not!
DeleteI don’t think I will see Midsummer because I am not into Horror. I really want to see Knives Out. I have seen so,little this year..or past year:)
ReplyDeleteSame here. I've only seen like 4 movies in theaters last year. I'm hoping to remedy that this year.
